　　历的细枝末节，往往藏掖着解决问题的关键。越是仔细研读，越会发现其背后隐藏的故事和机关。本着还原历史、忠于历史的态度，历史学家更应该把姿态放低，尝试将自己融入于历史，学会站在当事当时去思考。 真正的叙事高手从来不用定性或装饰性质的字眼，而是竭尽可能地去挖掘史料、严谨考证、小心推论，并谦逊地将得出结论的权利和快乐留给读者。一篇论文，仅着眼于一个或者几个小疑点。许多论文汇总起来，就能实现从量变到质变， 在一个大的领域形成突破。 历史不是坐落在时间线上的空谈，应是一个个鲜活人物日常生活的堆积和交织。读懂了历史，才能读懂当下。

　　课程目标

　　本课程就是中世纪欧洲的“旅行手册”。它的目的在于给“旅行者们”提供一个去了解那个已经消逝的时代的窗口和指南。和常规历史课不同，本课程不会高屋建瓴地分析重大历史事件，而是会从寻常生活入手——尝试通过中世纪欧洲普通居民的眼睛去观察当时的意识形态、社会情绪、民众信仰和希望。 本课程对学生英语基础有一定要求，教授会在线分享阅读材料和指定文献。学生需要积极完成每周阅读任务和阅读笔记的撰写。学生需要积极参与课堂讨论，分享阅读体验、并结合史料分析当代生活种种。此外，学生会学习完成一篇Primary Source Analysis作为研究成果。

　　Course background

　　In history, the details and intricacies often conceal the key to solving problems. The more carefully we study, the more we discover the hidden stories and mechanisms behind them. With an attitude of historical accuracy and faithfulness to history, historians should lower their postures and attempt to immerse themselves in history, learning to think from the perspective of the people of that time. True narrative experts never rely on qualitative or embellishing terms. Instead, they strive to unearth historical records, rigorously verify their findings, make cautious inferences, and humbly leave the right to draw conclusions and the joy of discovery to the readers. An academic paper focuses on one or a few small points of doubt. When many such papers are combined, they can bring about a transformation from quantity to quality, creating a breakthrough in a larger field. History is not mere rhetoric on a timeline but rather a compilation and interweaving of the daily lives of vivid individuals. By understanding history, we can truly understand the present.

　　Course objective

　　This course serves as a "travel guide" to medieval Europe. Its purpose is to provide "travelers" with a window and guide to understanding that bygone era. Unlike conventional history courses, this course does not analyze major historical events from a lofty perspective. Instead, it starts with everyday life - attempting to observe the ideologies, social sentiments, popular beliefs, and hopes of medieval Europe through the eyes of ordinary residents.

　　This course requires a certain level of English proficiency from students. The instructor will share reading materials and assigned texts online. Students are expected to actively complete weekly reading assignments and write reading notes. Students need to actively participate in classroom discussions, share their reading experiences, and analyze contemporary life in light of historical sources. Additionally, students will learn to complete a Primary Source Analysis as a research outcome.
