终身正教授

Professor Christopher is a professor in Modern European Politics at POLIS and an Official Fellow at Queens’ College, Cambridge. He specializes in European politics and has published three research monographs. His first was European Union Foreign Policy: From Effectiveness to Functionality (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011; paperback in 2015). His second book, European Integration: From Nation-States to Member States (Oxford University Press, 2012), was awarded the Best Book prize by the University Association of Contemporary European Studies. His third book is Technopopulism: The New Logic of Democratic Politics (Oxford), written with Carlo Invernizzi Accetti and published in 2021. His articles have been published in the Journal of Common Market Studies, Political Studies, International Politics and the Revue Française de Science Politique.  In 2016, he published the best-selling The European Union: A Citizen’s Guide with Penguin. He is currently writing a history of Europe Since 1989 which will be published by Penguin in the UK and the USA. He has held teaching positions at Oxford, the University of Amsterdam and Sciences Po in Paris. He is currently visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and at the Free University in Brussels, Belgium. He writes regularly for international newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Financial Times, Guardian, and Le Monde Diplomatique. He is a regular panelist on the podcast Talking Politics.

俄乌冲突已持续数月。这场冲突不仅是俄乌间的军事冲突，而且是俄罗斯与美国及其盟友之间的经济战。在战事和经济制裁等连锁反应下，世界股市、汇市、原油、粮食和有色金属期货市场等随之反复震荡。俄罗斯和乌克兰作为能源、工业原材料和农产品的重要供给国和连接欧亚大陆的重要运输通道，是主要产业的重要参与者，有着“牵一发而动全身”的影响。俄乌冲突及由此引发的经济制裁，给本就不稳定的产业链供应链带来更大风暴。从中长期看，产业链供应链调整和重构将因俄乌冲突而加快。受此影响，产业链供应链布局从过去基于比较成本优势原则转向兼顾成本、效益和安全，成本效益较大化不再是决定产业分工格局较重要的决定性因素，风险和安全作为新变量进入生产函数，成为影响跨国企业布局加工制造基地的重要考量，很多企业甚至愿意牺牲部分效益以增加安全。

项目介绍

本项目将把重点放在1989年以后时期的政治与欧洲经济发展历史。比较政治是政治科学和PPE的核心领域之一，通过比较不同经验的方法来研究政治与经济发展。自1989年以来，欧洲见证了政治自由主义的兴衰，民粹主义爆炸和区域经济一体化的发展。欧洲大陆的民族经历了民主政治过渡以及从社会主义经济向市场经济的过渡。本项目将通过比较各国的政治治理经验和经济发展历史来研究这些西方经济与政治的交互作用和影响。学生将深入了解西欧和东欧之间的差异，欧洲民粹主义盛行背后的原因以及许多其他发展，并获得政治与经济的核心概念。值得注意的是，较近发生的俄乌纷争的背后，有诸多欧洲政治历史与欧盟经济甚至美国经济息息相关的潜藏联系。如何洞察这场纷争的本质，其实需要对二战后欧洲的政治局势与历史发展，尤其是欧盟经济一体化发展有着深刻的认识。  

This course combines an introduction to comparative politics with a history of Europe’s political development, focusing on the period after 1989. Comparative politics is one of the core fields of political science. It is the study of political development using the method of comparing different national experiences. Europe since 1989 is an ideal environment for developing an understanding of comparative politics. The continent’s nation states have gone through democratic political transitions as well as transitions from socialist to market-based economies. European politics since 1989 has witnessed the rise and fall of political liberalism, a populist explosion, and regional economic integration. This course will study these developments by comparing national experiences. Students would gain an in-depth knowledge of differences between Western and Eastern Europe, the causes behind Europe’s populist explosion, and many other developments, as well as being given the basic skills and concepts of comparative politics. The students would also learn to work in groups and how to present their ideas in an organized and convincing way. At the end of the programme, students would be given a list of presentation topics. In the oral presentation, each student would be required to present one part of the presentation and they should accompany their oral presentation with a Powerpoint presentation. In addition, each student would submit a summary of their part of the presentation as a written text.
