考研英语翻译中的more than结构

　　同学们，大家好，今天我们来聊一聊考研英语中比较级more than及其相关结构的用法。

　　我们今天讨论的more than要与more A than B区分开来。

　　more A than B表示的意思是“与其说B，倒不如说A”，肯定more后面的内容而否定than后面的。如：Catherine is more diligent than intelligent.(凯瑟琳与其说聪明，倒不如说勤奋。)

　　而more than后面可以加数词，加名词/动词，也可以加形容词。

　　A：more than + 数词 = over(超过，多于)

　　e.g. Today the figure is more than 25% and growing rapidly. (2001-Text 4)

　　译文：现在这个数据超过了25%，而且仍在增长。

　　B：more than + 名词/动词 = not only/just(不仅仅，……以上)

　　e.g. But clearly there was more than lack of language here. (1993-Text 1)

　　译文：但是，显然这不仅仅是缺少语言的问题。

　　C：more than + 形容词 = very(表程度，非常)

　　e.g. I am more than happy to help you.

　　译文：我非常乐意帮助你。

　　在more than结构的这三种用法中，我们尤其需要注意第二种用法，more than + 名词/动词。我们通过下面的真题例句，来加强巩固一下这一用法。

　　e.g. More recently, as the Web proved to be more than a fashion, companies have started to buy and sell products and services with one another. (1999-Text 2)

　　译文：较近，随着网络被证实不仅仅是一种时尚，公司之间已开始互相交易产品和服务。

　　e.g. But what we forget — what our economy depends on us forgetting — is that happiness is more than pleasure without pain. (2006-Text 4)

　　译文：但是我们所忘记的——我们的经济依赖我们忘却的——是：幸福绝不仅仅是没有痛苦的快乐。

　　好了，通过这两个例句的练习，相信大家已经掌握了more than的用法。较后我们用一道翻译题来结束我们今天的讨论。
