　　一、可换用的场合
　　两者均可表示“开始”，在很多情况下可换用。如：
　　He sat down at the desk and began[started]to write.他在桌子前坐下就开始写了起来。
　　It’s no use waiting for her.Let’s begin[start].等她没用，咱们开始吧。
　　二、主要区别
　　1.begin表示的开始往往指从起点开始，而start则不一定。因此当一件事中断后再开始时通常应用start again，而begin again则往往含有“从头再来”的意思。如：
　　Conversation started and stopped,and after a long pause,started again.谈话开始后又停止了，过了好长一会儿，才又开始。
　　Don’t lose heart,let’s begin again.别灰心，让我们从头再来。
　　2.begin的动作性较弱，start的动词性较强，因此在表示某种状态或缓慢的开始时，一般多用begin;表示某种动作尤其是某种急速的动作时，一般要用start。如：
　　School begins on September 1.9月1日开学。
　　Now his health begins to improve.现在他的健康开始好转。
　　The dog suddenly started running round the house.那狗突然开始绕着房子跑。
　　3.表示“开动”、“出发”、“引起”等，一般用start。如：
　　We couldn’t start the car.我们无法开动汽车。
　　This news started me thinking.这消息引起了我的思考。
　　4.表示“从……开始”，英语一般不用begin from，但有时可用start from。如：
　　我们从第10页开始吧。
　　误：Let’s begin from page 10.
　　正：Let’s begin at page 10./Let’s start from page 10.
　　5.两者均为终止性动词，因此不能与一段时间连用。如：
　　电影开映10分钟了。
　　误：The film has begun[started]for ten minutes.
　　正：The film began ten minutes ago.
　　正：The film has been on for ten minutes.
　　正：It’s ten minutes since the film began.
　　6.关于begin和start之后接不定式还是动名词：
　　一般说来，两者之后接不定式或动名词在意义上没什么区别(也许当我们谈论一项长期或习惯性的活动时，动名词用得较多)。如：
　　I began[started]learning[to learn]French when I was ten.我10岁时开始学法语。
　　但是在以下情况，其后通常应接不定式(而不接动名词)：
　　(1)当begin和start本身为-ing形式时：
　　I’m beginning[starting]to cook the dinner.我正要开始做饭。
　　(2)若其后接的是表示心理活动的动词(如：like,know,think,realize,understand,appreciate等)时：
　　She started[began]to understand.她开始明白了。
　　He began to like poetry when he was a boy.他小时候就开始喜欢诗。
　　(3)当主语是物不是人时：
　　The ice began[started]to melt.冰开始融化。
　　注：若主语是指天气的it，则可接不定式或动名词。如：
　　It’s started raining[to rain].开始下雨了。
